What is laser welding and how does it work?
Laser welding is a high energy density welding method, by focusing the laser beam on the welding joint, the metal surface is rapidly heated and melted, and then the material is connected. The principles include the following:
1.Optical focusing: The laser welding machine utilizes the laser beam generated by the laser and focuses it by means of optical components such as lenses or mirrors, so that the laser energy is concentrated on the welded joint.
2.Heat conduction: When the laser beam strikes the surface of the workpiece, the laser energy is absorbed and converted into heat energy. The heat energy is gradually transferred along the metal conductive portion of the welded joint by heat conduction, causing its temperature to rise.
3.Melting and mixing: When the metal surface is subjected to a sufficiently high temperature, the metal begins to melt and a molten pool is formed. Under the action of the laser beam, the molten pool rapidly spreads and mixes to achieve the connection of the metal joint.
4.Cooling and solidification: Once the laser beam is stopped, the molten pool gradually cools and forms a welded joint during solidification. Does laser handheld welding require wire filling?
Handheld laser welding machines generally do not require the use of welding wire. This is because the principle of laser welding is that the surface of the workpieces is instantly heated to the melting point by a laser beam, causing them to melt and connect to each other. In this process, the welding material is the material of the workpiece itself, and there is no need to add additional welding wire. However, the assembly clearance of the welded parts is very high, which is sometimes difficult to ensure in actual production, limiting its application. The use of wire-filled laser welding can greatly reduce the requirements for assembly clearance. For example, for aluminum alloy plate with a thickness of 2mm, if no filler wire is used, the gap of the plate must be zero in order to obtain a good shape. If, for example, a filler wire with a thickness of 1.6 mm is used as filler metal, a well formed weld seam is ensured even if the gap is increased to 1.0 mm. In addition, filler wires can be used to adjust the chemical composition or for multi-layer welding of thick plates.
